Halton Hills Concert Band History

In 2009 our founder, Roper Galloway, approached the local Royal Canadian Legion Br. 120 about the idea of sponsoring a concert band for the local community. They agreed and said this was a great way to support the local community. Advertisements were posted and as the quota from the movie Field of Dreams says “If you build it they will come”, and the first practice night at Norval Presbyterian Church 6 musicians showed up. Roper was able to procure a small grant from the town & Trillium and the Legion have pitched in each year, so we were able to purchase music stands and other various items to help support the band. As the years have gone by we’ve moved between practice locations to accommodate our growing membership and we’re currently settled in a building in Cedervale park in Georgetown.

Led by our conductor Daniella Baryla, the band has entertained audiences at over 120 events since our formation and will have many more to come in the future. These have included the celebration of the arrival of the Olympic Torch, Concert for Haiti, our annual 'With Glowing Hearts' tribute to the Canadian armed forces, and Remembrance Day and Canada Day celebrations, among others. Our repertoire has a variety of styles & themes including swing, classical music, marches, Broadway tunes, TV themes, movie scores, and popular music.

For the Halton Hills Concert Band, playing music has always been about promoting the arts, volunteering in the community, and having fun.
